Ashley Voigt, BS
About
Ashley is currently a student in the master’s of Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Bradley University. She has an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in clinical and community psychology with a minor in social work. Ashley has previous years of experience working in the community mental health field, providing services to individuals who struggle with serious mental illnesses and who often face psychosocial challenges, like substance use and food & housing insecurity. This experience has helped her to develop a deep understanding of how important it is to be mindful of treating both environmental and individual factors in the therapy process.
As a counseling intern, Ashley’s preference is a person-centered and strengths-based approach that emphasizes the client’s expertise in their own life through rapport building and unconditional positive regard. She believes that this approach creates the right conditions to support clients in making positive and sustained change in their lives. Ashley understands that developing a strong, trusting, and nurturing relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in the therapeutic process.
Ashley will utilize evidence-based techniques, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and operate through a culturally competent and trauma-informed lens. Ashley is interested in working with teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and life transitions.
