As a family system, one member’s negative behavior or struggles in the family can impact the whole family unit. For example, if one family member is struggling with behavior issues, chronic illness or depression, they may impact the other members of the family. This can present various challenges to the family if the issues are not addressed appropriately. Family counseling’s purpose is to identify each member’s role in the family, communication patterns, parenting issues, and so forth in order to problem-solve ways to help the family function from day to day.
